Replace a Lost, Stolen, or Damaged EBT Card

If your Maryland EBT card is missing or no longer working, follow these steps to get a replacement and protect your SNAP benefits.

Step 1: Freeze Your Card Immediately

Call 1-800-997-2222 (24/7) the moment you notice your card is missing. You can also freeze it instantly inside the ebtEdge mobile app. Freezing prevents anyone from using your benefits.

Step 2: Request a Replacement

While on the call, choose the option to request a new card. Confirm your mailing address — replacement cards are sent only to the address on file with the Department of Human Services.

Step 3: Wait for Delivery

Replacement cards arrive in 7 to 10 business days by USPS mail. There is no fee for the first replacement in a 12-month period.

Need a Card Faster? Visit Your Local DSS

If you cannot wait, visit your local Department of Social Services (DSS) office. Most county offices can print a same-day replacement card. Bring:

  • A government-issued photo ID
  • Your case number, if you have it
  • Proof of address (utility bill, lease) if your address has changed

Find your nearest office on the contact page or at dhs.maryland.gov.

What About My Benefits?

Your SNAP balance is tied to your case, not the physical card. As soon as the new card is activated with a PIN, all remaining benefits will be available to spend.

Setting a New PIN

When the new card arrives, call 1-800-997-2222 and follow the prompts to choose a 4-digit PIN. Avoid easy-to-guess numbers like 1234, your birth year, or the last 4 digits of your phone number — these are the top combinations criminals try.

Damaged Card?

If the magnetic stripe or chip is damaged but the card was never lost, follow the same process — call 1-800-997-2222 and request a replacement.
