Using Your Maryland EBT Card Online

You don't have to leave the house to spend your SNAP benefits. Several major retailers let you use your Maryland EBT card online for delivery or curbside pickup.

Retailers That Accept Maryland EBT Online

  • Amazon — Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods delivery in most Maryland zip codes. SNAP recipients also get a discounted Amazon Prime membership.
  • Walmart — Pickup at any Walmart and delivery to most addresses. Shop at walmart.com or in the app.
  • Target — Drive Up and pickup orders at most Target stores in Maryland.
  • ALDI — Delivery via Instacart. Add EBT in Instacart payment methods.
  • Sam's Club — Curbside pickup at Maryland clubs.
  • Food Lion — Pickup and delivery (some areas via Instacart).
  • Hungry Harvest — Maryland-based produce delivery service.

How to Add Your EBT Card

  1. Open the retailer's app or website.
  2. Go to Account → Payment Methods.
  3. Choose "Add EBT card" or "SNAP EBT".
  4. Enter your 16-digit card number.
  5. At checkout, the app shows which items are SNAP-eligible and lets you enter your PIN to authorize the EBT charge.

What EBT Covers Online

The same SNAP rules apply online as in store:

  • Covered: groceries, snacks, cold beverages, produce, meat, dairy, baby formula.
  • Not covered: delivery fees, tips, alcohol, hot foods, paper products, pet food, toiletries.

You'll need a backup payment method (debit, credit, or gift card) for fees and non-food items.

Fees to Watch For

  • Amazon Fresh delivery: free over $35 with Prime; smaller fee for non-Prime.
  • Walmart+ membership: not required for EBT pickup.
  • Instacart: typical delivery fee plus optional tip.
  • Target: pickup is free; Shipt delivery has a fee.

Discount: Amazon Prime for SNAP Recipients

If you receive SNAP, Amazon offers a discounted Prime membership — currently around $6.99/month instead of $14.99 — including free Amazon Fresh delivery on qualifying orders. Verify your eligibility at amazon.com/qualify.

Walmart+ Assist

Walmart offers a similar discount on Walmart+ for SNAP recipients — about half the regular price — with free delivery on qualifying online orders.

Tips for Online Shopping

  • Check your balance before placing a large order.
  • Filter results to "EBT eligible" so you don't accidentally add ineligible items.
  • Schedule pickup or delivery for the day after your monthly deposit to make sure benefits are loaded.
  • Save receipts — disputes are easier with proof of the SNAP-eligible portion.
